Paddock Management

Horses are herd animals and we believe in the need for ongoing contact with other horses to maintain a healthy disposition. Consequently we keep horses in groups of between two and four in a paddock, depending upon paddock size. Careful consideration in consultation with owners is given to the proper matching of paddock-buddies. Where owners have more than one horse, we try to keep these together provided the horses get along with each other.

Our paddocks vary in size but are all enclosed by well maintained electric fencing, with double electric fencing along the property boundary with Battunga Road. Natural shelter is provided by many large native gums and we have reticulated water to troughs in all paddocks. We rotate horses regularly around the paddocks to ensure that individual paddocks are not over-grazed.

We maintain our paddocks by way of a regime that includes:

  • Regular manure clearance.
  • Harrowing.
  • Slashing.
  • Weed spraying.
  • Soil testing.
  • Fertilizing.
  • Re-mineralizing.
  • Application of lime.
